Pea Ridge, 1908: The 1862 Battle of Pea Ridge was still remembered in the area as the fiercest combat ever on Arkansas soil, with almost 4,000 casualties. More than 26,000 soldiers fought for two days before the Confederates withdrew. The writer of the postcard lettered each building and on the card's back identified places by letter, including the blacksmith shop, Dr. Green's office, a drugstore and Ed Fosters general store.
