The sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus) is one of the 27 sturgeon species and is well-known for its wide distribution and small body size in comparison to other sturgeons. For assessing the population genetics and parentage identification of sterlet, ten microsatellites developed for Chinese sturgeon and cross-amplified in sterlet were tested by 40 individuals of sterlet. The ten microsatellites were developed using transcriptome sequencing of Chinese sturgeon.
