WNBA names Brittney Griner as honorary All-Star starter

Griner's wife, Cherelle Griner, has spoken to the WNBA star in the four months since her arrest in Moscow [File: Rick Scuteri/AP] The State Department in May designated Griner as wrongfully detained, moving her case under the supervision of its special presidential envoy for hostage affairs, who is effectively the government's chief hostage negotiator. A coalition of human rights groups on Wednesday called on President Joe Biden to “make a deal” to secure Griner's release.
