The idea that new voting restrictions being pushed in Georgia and other states are a more sanitized version of Jim Crow -- dressed up in a 'suit and tie' or with 'cologne' as voting rights advocates put it -- says a lot about popular understanding of that era of racism and discrimination, as well as our own, says historian Nicole Hemmer.
