ST. LOUIS - There's a new fur baby at the zoo! Utamu (pronounced oo-TAH-moo), an 18-year-old chimpanzee, recently gave birth to a female baby, an important addition to the population of this critically endangered species, around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 28 at the Saint Louis Zoo's Jungle of the Apes. The baby has yet to be named. "We are all very happy to have a new baby in the troop and it is so great to see Utamu become a mother," said the Saint Louis Zoo's Heidi Hellmuth, curator of primates.
