Like the England soccer team in their latest World Cup match, the UK economy scored an unexpected victory in June. The larger-than-forecast 0.5% rise in GDP in June meant that output grew 0.2% in the second quarter compared to the previous three months. That's a modest acceleration but not enough to force the Bank of England to hike rates again in September.
