The prevalence of active smokers has remained relatively stable around 20% for several years in Denmark despite knowledge of the harmful effects. Smoking cessation is the most effective way to limit progression and reduce mortality of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Therefore, smoking cessation is particularly important among adults with COPD.
