WHAT IS UTERINE FIBROID?
Uterine Fibroid is one of the major causes of female infertility which affect over 65% of women worldwide today. Fibroids are not cancerous, they are tumor-like growths that grow from muscle layers of the womb
Different types of Uterine Fibroids
(1) Intramural fibroid (the kind that grows on the wall of the uterus)
(2) Subserosal fibroid (the kind grows outside of the uterine wall)
(3) Submucosal fibroid (this kind grows inside the uterus or womb)
(4) Pedunculated fibroid (this grows on stalks).
Fibroids vary in sizes ranging from small inconspicuous to size of walnut and grape fruit. Some women also have cases of multiple fibroids of different sizes. They all start growing as a small seedlings and then spread to other part of the Uterus’ muscular wall
SYMPTOMS OF FIBROIDS
The symptoms varies depending on the size, number and location. The most common symptoms include:
▪️Abnormal bleeding and heavy painful periods ▪️Lower back pain ▪️A sensation of pressure in the abdominal area.
EFFECTS OF FIBROIDS
May include: Pain experienced during sexual intercourse depending on the location of the fibroids, miscarriage and premature labour. Generally it has been observed that changing estrogen (hormone) levels plays a tremendous part in the development and growth of fibroids.
When a woman’s estrogen level increases, for example during pregnancy, fibroids tends to grow at a more rapid pace
Taking contraceptive pills (birth control) also floods the body with estrogen. Women taking contraceptive pills, therefore, have higher levels of estrogen and are more likely to develop fibroids. When women are in menopause and level of estrogen naturally decreases, fibroids also decrease, shrink or disappear. Basically, it all ties into estrogen, which elevates a woman’s risk for developing fibroids..
Gradually alleviation of the chronic, Inflammatory conditions such as vulvitis, vaginitis, cervical erosion, endometritis, salpingitis, and pelvic infection may arise
